Amulets in the shape of a scarab were placed on the heart side of the mummy bandages. The scarab is a beetle. It has the particularity of pushing dung balls in which it lays its eggs.
In Pharaonic times, Egyptians thought the sun was born from a giant scarab. Every day the scarab would roll the sun into the sky.
